My aims for this Paper.
My interest In Nostradamus has always been in the central mystery- his ability or inability to see into the future. My goal remains as the proof or disproof of the prescience of his words. The reason for pursuing this controversial quest lies, not in a desire for Nostradamus' skill or for a psychic understanding of the future, but in the physical mechanisms that might allow such a paradoxical art to function.
In much of my recent work included on this website, I have shown the connectivity between the hidden message and the visible text. During these writings I have pointed out that this connection is limited to a small but sizeable percentage of the lines in Nostradamus' Prophecies. I have shown these lines to be connected to classical references and to hold a threefold allegory relating the past, present and the future, There is a strength to these lines that tantalises, so much so that at times I have indeed thought the future is concealed within their words. In fact this impression has been so strong that I have frequently chosen to stop unravelling a promising trail. My reluctance comes from the consequences of erroneous prediction as there is far greater danger in knowing the future than is offset by the benefits. Based on a single event or woolly words there can be no indisputable proof that it is possible to see the future. And after any successful prediction, coincidence can't be eliminated as an explanation. Success offers little reward, failure can damage those central to the revelation.
There is a safer avenue that achieves the same end; it is the unravelling of the code I believe is contained in Nostradamus' text. There is strong evidence in the anagrams that such a code may well exist but it is of a different nature to that of the allegories, it lacks the coherence of the classical reference linking past, present and future and it often lacks the support of the other lines of verse, floating alone like a feather in a stream. There is also evidence of incompletion, a strong thread of hint, be-tailed to create an impressionistic veil across many lines. Despite this I feel the following work is of far greater importance than my other works. As this paper develops and I select verses on the basis of relevant hidden anagrams the verses are seen to form a group in themselves. They are often the most obscure of Nostradamus verse with listings of planets and constellations. They also involve those verses that have for five centuries been seen as being Nostradamus' story of the fate of his own prophecies.
I trust this paper will prove invaluable to serious students of Nostradamus' work.
EXAMPLE OF HIDDEN MESSAGES ABOUT CODE.
The lines are frequently quite exceptional. Following are two of those that well illustrate the nature of the lines I am discussing in this paper. They are about code in the form of ciphers. They refer to rhetoric, which is the study of language, and the Hebraic Tetragrammaton, which is a type of anagram. (The hidden messages consist of a series of anagrams and they have the unusual property that they form linear word chains with special meanings. Continuous anagrams are separated by a hyphen.)

OUR-CHANNEL
There are a great number of lines with similar cryptic messages. They reveal internal consistencies and a constant theme. They are about the use of ancient works from the Bible and Legends to conceal divine/celestial/astronomic information.
These messages, like so many others illuminated in my website, are not trivial examples produced easily from common anagrams. The words Rhetoric, Tetragrammatons and Channel occur once each. Cipher occurs three time, Transposed four while Label has eight occurrences. Paul's is the most prevalent with 36 occurrences. The remaining longer words (more than three letters) occur between twenty and thirty times each). Their rarity is put in perspective by knowing Nostradamus' Prophecies contain over 3700 lines, each with about 40 letters in them (see my three papers on Anagram Research for more on this)..
These messages show internal consistency. For example the tetragrammaton is the four-letter anagram sequence (YHVH) used to generate the names of God(Jehovah). The meaning of this key gives relevance to the word 'transposed' as well as giving a context to Paul's mortal matter. Saint Paul would have been very familiar with this biblical technique and may well have spent his life developing this idea in relation to Jesus.
Similarly there is a hint in the visible text of the significance of the hidden anagrams. The rock (Saint Peter) contains (holds) hidden inside it (in its depths) the vehicle for the message (white clay ). However these are fragile links and to try and to make such connections is a distraction that tends to undermine the more impressive connections in the hidden text.
One of the first intents of this paper is to emphasise the consistent difference between the code instruction messages, of which the two above are part, and those that are stories. Already I have indicated the instructions tend to stand on their own without great support from the rest of the verse whereas the stories draw on internal and external references to guide the structure of the story (for more on these use the links to floods, nuclear energy and disasters on this website). Many of these code messages are embedded as part of a story and have relevance at that point but in these verses the other lines hint at support without being diverted from their main purpose (see examples in later parts of this paper).
One of my other aims is to present the full scope of material on this topic with the hope that it may prove useful to those who read this work.
As I progress I will try to establish the themes linked to the instructions and state the limitations in their use. So often the nature of the instructions seem to be clear but it is their minutiae that keeps them out of reach.
These ideas of mine are not without a classical foundation. They fit well to the views of a writer who would have been well known to the scholarly Nostradamus. In the 5th century the St Eucherius wrote a set of formulae for interpreting the bible where each name, place and number became an allegorical cipher.
Extracts from Eucherius to his son in Christ, Veranus, greetings.
" We remind ourselves and others that, in the future, the whole of scripture will be our [mental] dress; the old, as well as the new, will be the means to allegorical understanding, because as we read in the Old Testament: I will open my mouth in parables; I will speak in old mysteries [Ps. 77(78):2], or again, as it is written in the New Testament, Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the crowds and without parables he would not speak to them [Matt. 13:34].
...The entire worth of heavenly mysteries is not known indiscriminately and randomly, nor is the sacred set before dogs nor pearls before swine [Matt. 7:6], .... so the divine scriptures first shine like silver but glow like gold in their hidden parts... the scriptures themselves protect the heavenly mysteries by cloaking them.... Therefore, when in sacred books, one finds the eyes of the Lord, the neck of the Lord, the feet, and even the long-reaching arms of the Lord, written of---
.... The body, therefore, is the sacred scripture, as it has come down to us, as it is in letters, with the soul of moral sense, which is uttered in figures of speech, with the spirit of superior understanding, which names by analogy. How the pattern is found in the three-fold nature of the scriptures! ....our spirit, our mind, and our body are irreproachably one...
.....Rhetoric takes the mind mysteriously back to the correction of life. Analogy leads secretly to the heavenly figures. .... Here, in truth, are many similar examples made manifest: the heaven which we contemplate here is close to history; the life of the heavenly is close to rhetoric; baptism of water is close to allegory; the angels are close to analogy. It is everywhere: ... Real knowledge, therefore, is spread from various sources. Contemplation, moreover, is derived in two parts, that is, it consists in historical discourse and in understanding spiritual knowledge. "
There are many points of contact between these thoughts of
Eucherius and the writings of Nostradamus. It is my opinion that Nostradamus
didn't use Eucherius' formulae but that he developed a similar symbolic system
suited to his Prophecies rather than the bible. The following example
(Nostradamus quatrain 13 in Centuries II) could well relate to the use of
anagrams read from right to left.

The second line of the visible text is intriguing with its reference to its date of death being the date of birth, however it is not my intent to pursue the saint's names raised in the hidden message. My point is that this second line could be a cryptic way of saying 'work backwards'. The first line could represent the hidden code is to be revealed. The third suggests there is a link between the hidden and visible texts. The fourth implies that the words that were always there are now readable.
WORDS THAT IMPLY A CODING MACHINE USED BY NOSTRADAMUS
However it is time I presented a few more lines gathered around the central key of code. The following three lines incorporate the word 'coding'. or 'encoding'. They are the only lines of verse to do so . The anagrams are usually continuous but I leave it to the reader to trace them in the original line.

In these lines Nostradamus' text implies both a coding device and the use of Nordic runes (as in the Norse Eddic verse) to signify stories about slaughter by occupiers of foreign lands. The third of the above line suggests that the coding is hidden in the cadence of the poem These themes are substantiated by their frequency in the following lines involving code.
Each of the three lines above includes one composite anagram (my-machine / encoding-value/ tune-cadence). They provide completion for their host line and retain the sense of the other significant anagrams within the line. They are also supported by whole anagrams of similar meaning found in the the other lines involving code. For example the anagram for machine occurs in four verses (plus one that uses the word itself and which is not a meaningful anagram). The first of these gives the following.

Once again there is a composite anagram that adds to the sense of the line but this time Machine is an un-split anagram.
This pattern is consistent within all the instruction lines; there is a great deal of clarity but the line cannot be completed without an element of guess-work. However there is an impressionistic view left in the unresolved part of the line, that, when combined with the input of other lines, usually suggests a plausible answer. This can be taken further with the above line so that it reads "Machine prints out main-ciphers on older Calendar."
The next line is one of the other three that carry the word machine as a true anagram.

NOSTRADAMUS, EDDIC VERSE AND TROY
These coding revelations continue to identify several ancient streams as sources for the ciphers. The next line uses the word encode or encoded. It also holds a composite anagram for coded-name. There is once again a reference to the Edda with the pallbearers identified in it having relevance to the genocide raised in an earlier line. In the Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson there are sections detailing the origins of the Nordic people in which the story of Troy is told.

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: Pallbearers (1), Encoded (1), Encode (12), Troy (36)
The Prose Edda, as with all Norse Eddic poetry, is full of allegorical ciphers called kennings. It could therefore have provided a very appropriate reference source for Nostradamus as he built his cipher system. In the section before the story of the fall of Achilles and Troy the Prose Edda makes the following analysis:
Then spoke Bragi "There are two forms into which all poetry is divided."
Aegir asked "Which two?"
Bragi said "Language and verse form."
"What choice of language is used in poetry?"
"There are three categories in the language of poetry."
"What are they?"
"To call everything by its name; the second category is the one called substitution; and the third category of language is what is called kenning?"(Faulkes, Anthony, trans. 1987. Snorri Sturluson, Edda. Everyman’s Library. London: J.M. Dent & Sons.)
The kenning disguises the name by using the name of someone-else but associates it with an attribute that makes it clear as to whom it should refer. The attribute holds the key not the name used. Using this as a guide, in Nostradamus' verse given above, we transfer our attention from this verse to the story in the Edda and then the troubled king is probably Hector, and the queen is likely to be Hecabe, King Priam's wife.
The story in Homer's Iliad tells how Andromache, Hecabe, and Helen perform individual laments mourning Hector's death as well as the devastating consequences his loss will mean to the city and its people. Their songs are answered antiphonally by a refrain of wails and cries from a chorus of Trojan women (hence the queen's reply). In such a manner there is satisfaction of the elements in both the visible text and hidden code.
The first verse containing an anagram of encode is given below. It also has an interesting variant (encoders) in the same verse and this is also shown

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: Letterprop (1), Icelanders-God (1), Focuz (1), Prophet ( 1 true anagram), Loveliest (1), Considered (1), Recognised (1), Polarise (5), Encoders (7) , Dial (9), Legend (11), Disc (11), Encode (12), Persia (23), Wrote/UUrote (72)
A letter-prop is a poetic device used in Icelandic poetry; it is a stressed letter repeated in a couplet, usually twice in the first line and once in the second . The anagram for prophet is non-trivial as it does not come from a word meaning prophet.(There are four other anagrams of prophet to be found in Nostradamus text but they involve the words Prophetie and Prophete- references that I consider to be more important as visible text words not hidden ciphers.). And linked to this unique anagram is a most unexpected combination that allows an easy recognition of the elegant and highly poignant term 'prophet encode'.
These lines in Quatrein 18 are also interesting because they endorse the themes appearing in the earlier presentations. The idea of a disc or dial based on an older Persian model but adapted through the use of Icelandic legends remains consistent. However the full content of these lines is difficult to complete specially in line one where the letter group igence gau is unused. Despite this they yield valuable new information since they imply a polarisation of a disc or dial and the use of the letter-prop (or stave) as a coding device. From this analysis the path is laid to match runes in the Edda's to letters used in a similar way in Nostradamus' text. This technique involves the position of the polar stars as will be shown later in this paper.
The EDDA reference can be followed up at this point. Although there are no whole anagrams of the word anagram There is one composite anagram of EDDA-anagrams and the line containing it reinforces earlier details. At first glance the meaning of the line might seem irrelevant but it will prove not to be so.

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: Edda~Anagrams (1), Hectors (2), Carthorse (2), Issues (4), Earths/Hearts (10), Closure (14), Garlanded (16), Rules (111)
In the Iliad Achilles slays Hector. After the battle a garland drops from Andromache's head as she swoons upon seeing her husband's body being dragged by horses towards the Greek fleet. She is one of the three women who sing laments at Hector's funeral. Here is a sense in which the garlanded chariot-horse reveals that her lovers heart has ceased to beat. In addition Hector was known as Horse-taming Hector, so by the Icelanders rules of kenning and the concealed name of HECTOR, the 'garlanded carthorse' can identify Andromache as the great lady seated in the orchestra.
She is Hector's wife and in the Edda, Snorri Sturluson links Hector to the Norse God Thor, The wife of Thor is Sif, or Sibyl who is identified as a prophetess with hair of gold.
The story of Sif's hair is delightful and relevant.
"Why is gold called Sif's Hair? Loki Laufeyarson, for mischief's sake, cut off all Sif's hair. But when Thor learned of this, he seized Loki, and would have broken every bone in him, had he not sworn to get the Black Elves to make Sif hair of gold, such that it would grow like other hair. After that, Loki went to those dwarves who are called Ivaldi's Sons; and they made the hair, and Skídbladnir also, and the spear which became Odin's possession, and was called Gungnir."
Compare this part of the story with a line presented earlier where Centuries 3 Quatrein 72 line 4 says "Captured on the road all his gold for ransom." By this means Sif's golden hair helps identify another thread running through the above lines implying that gold may well be one of the ciphers used as a code for prophecy. In addition, since the earlier line containing the word gold also holds "Machine prints out on older Persian Calendar " in its hidden message, gold may also serve as a signal for the calendar needed for the prophecy.
This suggestion gains support in the next line which is one of seven containing an anagram of calendars.

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: Moonuuater (2), Increased (3), Icelanders (6), Calendars (7) , Gory (12), Older (25), Your (28), Dangers (69)
It should be immediately apparent that this line has numerous links to the foregoing analysis including the golden age reference. The anagram of older was in the line which mentioned older Icelanders as well as the present one. the concept of gory calendars fits to calendars based on genocide and pallbearers. Your dangers increased is consistent with the idea that these themes are linked to dire prophecies where genocide and death are commonplace.
As with each of the lines so far presented there are many anagrams adjacent to each other. Each of the anagrams is often a rare occurrence so their close and perfect link only adds to the mystery as to how the consistency of the themes can be explained away.
As in many of the lines there is a small section that is imperfect. Many reasons could be offered as to why this should be so for we are dealing with a complex code, published in a time of imperfect techniques. They may however imply that there is nothing valid in this analysis even though in most instances I have shown that they could be part of a composite anagram such as my~machine. In the above line I have no clear wording for mort nouueau however there is a possibility it stands for moon or water. Such an idea is supported in lines yet to be presented.
The next line containing an anagram of calendars is included in a verse that offers considerable links to the themes already identified.

The word calendar appears seven times as an anagram throughout Nostradamus' text. Of these two are in the form of calendars. Of the other five, three of them highlight the unusual nature of the coding. Right from the beginning of this paper I have pointed out that adjacent words which are also anagrams often have unusually good fit to the key word. In this case the lines of the other examples containing the anagram of calendar have clear anagram sequences of Calendar-I-Date (or Calendry-Date), A-Calendar-Time and Calendar-Group.

This verse too, is full of astronomic references and the fourth line of the visible text says Saturn, Leo, Mars, Cancer in plunder. Here we have a clear reference to Cancer as indicated in the hidden text of the previously presented line. This verse has another intriguing link as the hidden text of the second line refers to pairing being retained within a dialect and line three's visible text says All changed except the old language. The small section of the second line that has not been deciphered in the above table holds words such as Unspelt Tunes Pulse but at this point they add nothing to the meaning.
The last of the three terms calendar-group comes in a verse of special significance since its words seem to relate to the decoding of Nostradamus' own work.

This is a strange verse and its hidden message remains obscure however Couplement means a pairing of items and this is consistent with the previous line entries. The Parques are the Roman Fates of older times.
These lines containing the anagram of calendar illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of the coding. There are meaningful clusters but it is difficult to use the full lettering in a line to complete the structure. It would be a nigh impossible task to build a multi-layered code that offered perfection in every sense. If the skeleton of ideas are indeed valid then it may prove impossible to get exact transcription of what was originally written. Success is dependent on the grasping of the threads, weaving an image from the shapes presented and then using strong disciplines to prevent over-commitment to these unproven themes. Like a jigsaw, its parts have little meaning except when correctly aligned.
THE POLESTAR, POLARIS AS AXIS OF ASTRONOMY
The idea of alignment is one of the elements stressed in several verses. In an earlier line I identified that an ancient disc was polarised. This polar aspect is highly important within the ciphers. The following line begins this most important trail. It is another verse that contains specific astronomic references. Its first line says "The head of Aries, Jupiter and Saturn." It is however the third line that contains our polar reference for at its beginning it says "Polar sign is up". It also has the identifier Polaris to make it clear what star we are dealing with.

SIGN-ENCLOSE-POLARIS CLOSE-ALIGNMENT TO-PURISA-RUNE |
OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: POLARIS (6), POLAR,Sign (1), POLAR,Signs (1), Close,alignment (1), Alignment (2)
Polaris is the current Polestar and in the year 2000-2001 it drew to its closest alignment with the Celestial North pole. It was 25,500 years since this last occurred and it will be another 25,500 years before it occurs again. Such an event is a major signpost in the calendar of the cycles of the stars. It is a product of precession that will bring a sequence of a small number of Northern stars into proximity with the Northern Celestial Pole (and then they in turn will become the Polestar). In the Old Norse system the Thurisa /Purisa rune is associated with the Rime-Giants or Ice-Giants. The hidden text implies that Polaris bears a runic sign that has similar import.
Polaris is currently the major star in Ursa Minor and there is one Nostradamus' verse containing the anagram of this constellation. That verse is a central part of a whole paper of mine that uncovers another surprising astronomic trail in Nostradamus' verse (see my paper on Astronomy to examine these connections). In this present analysis we are able to match the astronomy mentioned in the hidden code of line three to the content of the visible lines, particularly line 0ne. A rare occurrence took place in 2000CE in relation to the planets as all the major planets were in close proximity. For a long period they formed an arc across the sky centred on Aries with Jupiter and Saturn at their head. On the 17th May 2000 these planets, together with the Sun and Venus were in conjunction. Mars and Mercury were in conjunction in the neighbouring constellation of Taurus. On the 3rd May 2000 Saturn, Jupiter, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Moon were in the constellation of Aries. We therefore have May 2000CE marked as the start of the period when the bad times return.
One of the most remarked on conjunctions of similar type took place in 1524CE and it was widely considered to be the start of an apocalyptic period, it too helps satisfy the settings of Nostradamus' verse for the dates are nearly 500 years apart and 1524CE was within his lifetime. This double setting justifies Nostradamus' reference to the times returning.
Over the period 100BCE to 2000CE there have been only thirty-four occasions when the three slowest moving planets have been within five degrees of each. These form a set of base dates on which all the planets can be in an arc within a constellation. During that period, on only two occasions each, did this happen in either Aries or Cancer which ar the constellations mentioned above. The first occasion in Aries was 115CE, the second in May 200CeE as already mentioned.. The occasions on which it occurred in Cancer were 710CE and 1564CE. The year 710CE represents the period when the Norse Runes underwent a major transformation, it marked the period during which the art of story telling of Scandinavian creation myths evolved. The other occasion was 1564CE which was at the end of Nostradamus life (1503CE to 1568CE). Nostradamus lived in a particularly rich period for conjunctions. Of the thirty-four involving Jupiter, Saturn and Mars that took place over a period of two millennia, three occurred during his lifetime. The first was particularly personal for it took place in Gemini during his birth. The second was that of 1524CE in Aquarius when Nostradamus was twenty-one. The fear and publicity surrounding this long sequence of conjunctions between the planets in the constellation of Aquarius would surely have left a lasting impression on Nostradamus, keen student of the stars.
There is therefore strong historical reasons for suspecting these codes do indeed represent a diary of the progress of Nostradamus' writings. If Nostradamus did leave a dating mechanism as his writings often imply, then these critical astronomic events may well form the basis of his calendar. Another verse that contains the adjacent anagrams of Polar Signs is also interesting since it once more hints at Nostradamus' code being broken after many centuries and adds to the the idea of these verses being his journal.

During the time of the definition of the zodiac, the constellations now known as the Little Bear and Great Bear lay at an equal distant either side of the Pole. Arcturus, the fourth brightest star in the sky was, in ancient times, considered to be their keeper and was often referred to as the Bears Guard. Over the millennia since that time the ordinates observed by the Persian astronomers have changed. The star at the tail of the Little Bear has become the Polestar and over the centuries adjustments have had to constantly be made to allow for the change in its distance from the pole.
Nostradamus visible text in the verse above hints at the war between the Sun and Venus cults to control the minds of men. It is a battle between the manifold female gods and the singular Semitic male god of Christianity. This is the battle that saw the shaping of the Prose Edda and many other tracts about the pagan past. The Christianised writer Snorri Sturluson wrote a pagan literature into the Edda, telling how the female gods had held equal sway but it was presented in a manner that Christian sensibilities would accept. These issues are important in the next sequence of verses I present.
There is one of Nostradamus' verses where the words star route appear as adjacent anagrams. It too continues the story of the polar stars and once again its visible text relates to the themes outlined above. At this point it is fair to add the observation that the astronomic alignments coincide with 'end-of-time' references to the list of themes. There is a growing list of unusual aspects to these verses that are chosen solely by their containing examples of rare but linkable anagrams. At this point of the analysis it is worth listing these unusual aspects.
All of these can be seen in the following verse

The central idea of the timing of a rotating axis is fully in keeping with ideas expressed earlier. The Rime-Giants or Ice-giants are part of Norse Mythology and seem aptly applied to to the two Bear constellations of the north Pole.
It might appear from the visible wording that this line is out of context but below are the visible text of lines 1, 2 and 4 and these firmly identify its relevance. The planetary setting suits the year of 1524CE which was widely considered, prior to its passing, as the beginning of end of the world.

It is reasonable to assume that, as in other trails established in my papers, that this pattern of astronomy in the visible verse is a clue to the nature of the hidden text. This becomes yet another cipher to unlock Nostradamus' code. An astronomic reference implies at least one line of code hides small details about the use of the Polestar in rebuilding Nostradamus calendar. At this point the conjunction of planets at the time of Polaris being at the Pole acts like the hands of a clock whose period is 25,500 years. In the year 2000CE these hands came together to point to the beginning of a new cycle and the end of the old. It seems identical to the Nordic Song of the Sybil (Voluspa) which describes the Twilight of the gods, their destruction and the regeneration of the world.
The Voluspa also has hidden astronomic code, and like Nostradamus' text may hold anagrams that were used by the writer to embed pagan knowledge linked to the tradition inherited through Christianity. One verse of the Voluspa talks of the three Thurs maidens being created from the Land of Giants. Thurs means giant and more specifically these beings were rime-giants or frost giants. We need to go to Hebraic tradition to find the Western link. The Hebrews saw the Great Bear as being the three daughters of As or Ash. The name of the peoples in the Nordic tales is As or Aesir. Their great tree Yggdrasil is an Ash. But more pertinently the words for Thurs maidens in Old Norse are (Th)ursa meyjar (codex Regius Voluspa Verse 8). (Th)ursa meyjar is a hardly concealed form of URSA MAJOR, the main Latin name for the Great Bear. If this was intended it bears the same traits as the code I am claiming lies in Nostradamus. Both use subtle variations of language to link old ideas to arcane information.
This claim that Nostradamus' work draws on similar ideas to those used by the Norse is not a new theme for this paper as it has occurred often in my earlier references. It is now time to pursue the relevance of the runes.H-RUNE OF DESTRUCTION AND RENEWAL
To advance this topic I begin with a verse that gives us a specific cipher.

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: RunicNorse (1), Envision (1), Neoppagans (1), Hagela (2), Agen Person (2), Person (37)...NOTE: HagelaR, Hagala and Hagal do not occur as whole anagrams)
These lines hold important content byt they need particular knowledge of both Nostradamus' life and the Norse runes.. The line "Honors, riches, travail in his old age" is fairly generic in meaning but the it has anagrams for Agen-person. Nostradamus spent much time in Agen so it may well apply to him but being third person in its sense it would suggest it is someone else in Agen, such as Jules Scaliger, with whom Nostradamus worked . The Norns were the three Norse maidens of fate and their tale is part of the Voluspa. In this Nordic poem the description of the Norns follows after the emergence of the three Thurs maidens and is likely to refer to them. They were the weavers of fate and cast the runes.
Runes were figures written into twigs and bones. Terms relating to branches, twigs, wood and bones can be expected to be part of lines holding the keys to the runic code. The use of the word branch in the first line is therefore a likely key to its importance. These concepts can be added to the emerging life of ciphers that serve as keys to Nostradamus' code.
The hidden text of the second line of the verse displayed above has a composite anagram of RUNIC-NORSE and the anagram for a rune HagelaR / Hagala / Hagela. This is a significant rune in the context of all the foregoing analysis with their possible linking of references to Nostradamus himself to visible lines dominated by gloom and prophecy. Hagal is linked to hail or grain in the Anglo-Saxon rune poem and turns into water after being tossed in the wind. It is thought to represent the 'cosmic' egg, a creation rune of transformation. It is deeply integrated into the mysteries of renewal through destruction, winter into spring. In this form it has parallels to the Voluspa with its tale of creation, doom and renewal. These are exactly the themes of the verses analysed above. Hagela also fulfils an earlier reference to a rune closely allied to the rune Purisa, the link is through the concept of ice, three Thurs maidens and hence the Great and Little Bear constellations. Purisa will emerge as the Great Bear and Hagela becomes the Little Bear.
As indicated above there is only one other verse which holds an anagram of HAGELA. One again it indicates that there is a purposeful placement of key words. Its visible text is almost a restatement of the principles I have outlined above using only reason as my basis for selection; a sequence of choice that were independent of these verses containing Hagela. There has been a trail built from start to finish, not an end point aimed at to bring us to this verse. So to reach such powerful ciphers as Hagela and Purisa as the bears involves no act of deception on my part.

Nostradamus' text Meaning of original text Le ciel (de Plancus la cite) nous presage The sky ( of Plancus' city ) forebodes to us Par clers insignes et par estoilles fixes Through clear signs and fixed stars, Que de son change subit s'aproche l'aage That the time of its sudden change is approaching, Ne pour son bienne pour ses malefices Neither for its good, nor for its evils.
The first two lines could be paraphrased to say 'The prophecies use designated runes to store the polar stars' in measurements taken from Lyon in France". Then the last two lines are the identification of the attributes of the Hagela rune. (Note: Lyon was founded in 43BCE by the Roman, Lucius Manatius Plancus).
Like so many others in this series the above verse offers little meaning to most analysts but this is because they seek the prophecy in each line and verse. However many verses and lines appear to have the primary purpose of being guides as to the internal content of messages hidden within them. In Nostradamus' text the first line does include the brackets and it is the only line to do so. It is quite likely that this is intentional as so many things that look meaningless take on significant value when placed in the correct context. Now (de Plancus lacite) contains unplaced citadels and while Lyon is the city identified by most analysts of this verse, the first line contains an anagram of coastline (s la cite no) and the second line an anagram of seaport (et par eso). Although in the paragaprh above I used the conventional placement for Plancus city I believe this is wrong; it should be Gaeta in Italy, a coastal seaport in which the mausoleum of Plancus can still be found). There is also a set of unusual anagrams in line three which generate evidence of a cholera infection, which may indicate a definitive date. (NOTE: The New York Times July 27 1893 published a news item in which the Portuguese government 'declared Naples and all the ports of Senegal to be infected with cholera and all the ports between Gaeta, forty miles northwest of Naples, and Salerno, thirty three miles south-east of Naples, to suspected of infection.' On April 28th 1893, the planets Jupiter and Venus were in very close conjunction in Aries and, at 6.47pm, in this locked formation, they were conjoint with the Sun.)
There was another incident in 1893 that is worthy of comment. In that year the Chicago World Fair took place and the next time that Chicago held that event was in 1933. To link the two the light from Arcturus, the Bear's loyal guard, was used to open the later event. This was based on the false premise that the light used would have originated from Arcturus at the time of the previous fair (it is actually 3 years out). The clear sign from the fixed star certainly heralded a time of change. The year of 1893 may therefore serve as a link for events in later times that involve both Gaeta in Italy and Chicago in the USA.
Although this verses hidden code holds its own detailed story its complexity makes it distracting to follow at this time. Instead I leave a brief sketch of some key words found in the verse. What is apparent is that the verse's visible text has a distinctive tone linking it to the Hagela rune and that its internal, hidden content is directed to amplifying its meaning.

NOTE: In Roman mythology, Portunes (alternatively spelled Portumnes or Portunus) was a god of keys and doors and livestock. He protected the warehouses where grain was stored. Probably because of folk associations between porta "gate, door" and portus "harbor", the "gateway" to the sea. In this word (Portunes) we therefore have a semantic link between Hagela as grain, a code needing a key provided by Portunes and a connection to ports and gates viz Gaeta.
The previous verse holding the Hagela anagram alse held an Agen reference (Agen person) that I suggested might apply to Jules Scaliger. This new verse supports this view. The third lines 'Agen-chosen bits' holds its own peculiar reference since Nostradamus lived for a long time in Agen but it was not his home during the time of the creation of the Prophecies. It is likely to refer to his work with Jules Scaliger, a famous 16thC writer who was a fierce opponent of Erasmus. The last line of the above verse holds anagrams for Erasmus-life and Europes-nine flames which once again impose a specific direction for pursuing the solution to the code. There is an implication that Nostradamus has taken a section out of one of Jules Scaliger's critiques of Erasmus.
These verses that I am presenting have many unusual qualities, not least of which is their common tone. It is possible to pick the changing tones in Nostradamus quatreins where some are clearly about people and wars but there are many that speak of omens, planets and mystic occurrence. It is the latter group that appear to hold the key words to the instructions and these key words deal with astronomic and calendary ciphers. The preceding verse can be seen as dealing with a time of great change with ruin at its core. It is totally in accord with the nature of the Hagela rune bit its hidden messages present barriers to clarity. This particular verse seems to be a node through which many ideas flow (many of Nostradamus' story lines can be found to have links in this verse). It is a crossing point for many different threads and this makes it difficult to present since it diverts attention from the purpose of this paper. These multiple links do not apply to the line presented below where the quatrein's tone can easily be identified as substitutional and there are no diversions present. This is another of the seven verses which contain the word 'chosen' as an anagram.

It is clearly about a code in the quatreins (verses of four line rhyming couplets). Each part of the line has easily identified wording except for the section that I have arranged as ALNUBR. The poetic tenor of the existing anagrams imply that these unused letters are either the waste from writing a code into a message with several tasks or that these letters have an as yet un-disclosed significance. There are many ways they can be interpreted as meaningful but each involves assumptions that go beyond the clear, whole anagrams that form the base of the instruction. It is to be expected that any meaning to ALNUBR would give depth to the visible text of the whole verse which is as follows.

Nostradamus' text | Meaning of original text |
Faux exposer viendra topographie | He will come to expose the false topography, |
Seront les cruches des monumens ouuertes | the vessels of the monuments will be opened. |
Palluler secte saincte philosophie | Sect and holy philosophy to thrive, |
Pour blanches noires et pour antiques vertes | black for white and the new for the old. |
Each of the other lines of this verse also hold important data in their hidden content. Line three conveys All rules a secret pantheistical apophesi. If this is correct it states there is a secret support for many gods not just the one God and that it is hidden in its denial (apophesis). Apophasis gives meaning to the last lines reference to black for white while pantheism is in keeping with sect and holy philosophy to thrive.
Line two holds anagrams for Norse~letters crushed women's true omens - men wrote worse demons." Here it can be taken that a pantheistic culture goes into denial changing good for bad through the art of writing. This is surely an apt description of the Norse legends where the old gods favourable to women were demonised to give the sagas Christian respectability. And once again we can see that the visible line supports the hidden content presented above. The vessels are the Eddic sagas and they are the monuments to the old ideas. Once examined closely (opened) their contents do show the culture retained pantheistic ideals covered up by making white magic, black and replacing the old gods with the new one.
There is a critical significance to this; since Nostradamus is drawing on the Norse tradition so heavily, the code must obey these same principles, it must be about a hidden heresy concealed through demonising that which is its true core. It is likely that the Doomsday scenario in Nostradamus is not a setting for the end of the world but rather the onset of harsh times that provide the impetus of a new beginning. It is an expression of the Sybil's song, it is everything that the Hagela rune symbolises.
At this point it is time to examine the implications of all the above.
NOSTRADAMUS' CODE MACHINE IS AN ASTROLABE
The following line of verse, whose visible content is about astronomy and the pole, also tells us the nature of Nostradamus machine.

OCCURRENCES in Nostradamus' text: Astrolabe (1), Boundaries (1)
The Astrolabe is a device of Nostradamus' time . It is an astronomical tracking machine built from two discs which uses the pole as its centre, ( Also see my astronomy page on this website which establishes the validity of using the Polestar based equatorial system for Nostradamus' astronomy).
There is an interesting issue raised by pursuing the second occurrence of the anagram for boundaries which occurs in a verse discussed in one of my other pages (see Nuclear.htm) where it is identified as part of a sequence about Belarus. The interest arises because of two issues, the first being that Bastarnans is linked through Latin's Bastarnae to southern Poland and Ukraine which are on the boundaries of Belarus. Chernobyl, one of the major themes of my nuclear page, is in Ukraine and is close to the border of Belarus.
There is therefore a strong and unusual linking of the above line's visible text to the hidden text of the verse holding the following line.
Centuries 5 Quatrein 35 Line 3
Nostradamus' text | Meaning of original text |
Angloise classe viendra soubs la bruine | The English fleet will come under the drizzle |
The second part of the interesting link is the term la bruine. Although this means the drizzle in French, the term bruin is a Germanic term for Bear. In my analysis I show this line to contain anagrams that can be used to read Along BELARUSIAN boundaries RADON's scale is driven. There is another layer that can be found in this verse if a composite anagram is used but it is of no extra benefit to go beyond that easily seen. It is enough to state that these verses do appear to be linked in a significant way. They illustrate that words in both visible and hidden messages are unlikely to be random choices but have a specific purpose. What this particular linking does with its reference to Chernobyl is to illustrate that these are techniques for revelations about the modern times. This can be further demonstrated by an examination of an anagram for a modern astrolabe namely the celestial plane of a planisphere.

In this verse the towns mentioned include those of Naples and Salerno and in the last line there is a mention of plague. These are the keys that take us back to an earlier verse where the town of Gaeta was identified as Plancus' city and this verse held several anagrams describing the disease of cholera. This the linking of the chain is very similar to the fashion shown for the previous two verses where le bruin and Bastarnans formed rhetorical links between the verses. This makes the hidden text of the lines that hold the names of the towns of interest and their content is as follows.

Corsica, Salerno and the island of Sardinia, |
The Astrolabe / Planisphere needs to have certain markings on its twin discs. On the mobile disc the rim has to be marked with the hours of the day. This of course requires twenty-four markings and this could be done with ciphers based on the Nordic alphabet, the futhaorc. On the other plate, fixed below the mobile disc, is marked a table that shows the cipher of the upper plate that has to be aligned with a notch on the edge of the lower disc for it to be correct for that day and time.. These readings for time and day of year are specific to a particular latitude. In this instance Nostradamus is indicating that the latitude of use is between 38 degrees (Sicily) and 42 degrees (Corsica). This represents a very acceptable tolerance band for such a device and would make this instrument appropriate for use in all of Spain, Greece or Turkey. The discs of the astrolabe have a common axle, centred on the pole and there is a hole at this point of the device through which the Polestar can be aligned. The circular markings on the two discs then allow the critical angles of celestial bodies to be measured for recording. As a result of the analysis of this paper I conclude that Nostradamus used such a machine to help him encode the recorded of the dates of his events. This makes the next critical step in fully understanding his method is to expand the rune base and establish the means by which the numerical values are recorded in his quatreins.
There is one other line that contains an anagram of Celestial-Plane. Its verse is an ominous continuation of the plague and war themes raised in the fourth line of the other verse containing this anagram. At this point I only introduce this verse for the import of its visible text which is clearly a reinforcement of all that has gone before- there is a distinct pattern of foreboding locked into astronomic readings and these are pertinent to modern times.

This is indeed a chilling verse suited to this Hagela theme. The nature of the devastation derives from experimental rays using electrons. The visible verse declares the nature of the event and its links to the celestial measurements that are hidden in the underlying code. There are some startling turns of phrase incorporated into this verses anagrams and its significance will increase as the hidden story is developed.
This curious verse takes us to strange places and validly traces out ancient ideas and captures our immediate interest. The Grim Regime as the Great Bear turns revealing the year in which electronic experiments go tragically wrong.
In the next verse there is a link to my astronomy page for it details a highly significant change that took place between the time of the original Persian culture and that which prevailed at the time of Nostradamus. The original names for the Bears were based on an era when another star served as the polestar. At that time it was considered to be a more domestic animal; a goat a lamb or sheep. It was a kid and hence Polaris still retains Al Ghedi as one of its other names. The last line is particularly important since in it there are two composite anagrams referring to the bear, one in English and the other in French. The English anagram is of Bear-Group while the French refers to Grand-Ourse (actually in composite anagram of Grand-Ourse-Bear) which is the current name of the constellation known as the Great Bear, In the verse there is an indication of how the runic letters that serve for the Bears have altered because of the change in status of the Guards. The old rune that was CC or K has been converted to emm or MM. The verse also implies that the older poets used an extra ten ciphers for the Little Bear.

As these analyses have progressed readers must have wondered whether all these anagrams are easy to explain. I deliberately don't list all the anagrams that don't occur in the Prophecies for to constantly do so would destroy the telling of the points that matter. However it is appropriate that I do it a least once and this idea of gloom and doom presents the perfect opportunity.
These words are some that NEVER appear as whole anagrams in Nostradamus' Prophecies:
Doomsday, Domesday, Day-Of-Doom, Worlds-End (as uuorld), End-Of-The-World (as uuorld), The-Last-Day, Last-Day, (J/I)udgement-Day, (J/I)udgement, Last-(J/I)udgement, Apocalypse, Apocalyptic, Catastrophe, Doom, Hazardous, Hazards, Threats, Resurgence, Resurrection, Reincarnation.
The following words of similar meaning but less terminal do occur and they fit to the idea of destruction and renewal.
Armageddon (1), Renewal (1 as reneuual), Renewals (1),Renewment ( 1), Rebuilt (5), Regrow (1 as regrouu), Regrown (1), Regrows (1), Regenerate (1),Regenerates (2), Regenerated (1), Regeneration (1), , Revitalised (1), Rejuvenates (1), Replenished (1), Reborn (4), Reformation (1), Gloomy (1), Gloom (1), Damnation (1), Disasters (1), Disaster (2), Eradicates (1), Exterminate (1), Exterminator (1), Destruction (3), Precarious (2), Threatened (2), Dangerous (5), Perilous (3), Parlous (5), Destiny (3), Fortunes (3), Fortune (2), Fates (15).
And what makes these anagrams more exceptional is their aptness to the words contained within the verse and line of which they are part. A great number of them have very poignant anagram/word links related to the thrust of this analysis. The Bears, the Edda , the Norns and the threat to the modern age are amongst the stronger threads that unite them. One verse contains three instances of the words (re-grows, regenerates, renewals). Many of these will be developed in this next part of the paper. Of immediate interest may be the line that contains the adjacent anagrams of American Disaster. The first line I present includes the French Name of the Great Bear (Grand Ourse)

Armageddon is the name of the battleground of a final catastrophic and extremely destructive conflict. It is part of the biblical mythology of the end of the World. It is intriguing to find the link between Armageddon and the damned but disturbing to contemplate that the visible text probably defines the place of the world's destruction. It places it along the Rhine as far up as Switzerland. There is evidence for this from verses analysed earlier. C.9 Q.44 L1 says "Leave, leave Geneva every last one of you,". The hidden content of that verse indicates the means of destruction; a powerful experimental electron beam triggers the disaster. C.6 Q.4 L.2 says "No longer will it include the city of Agrippina:" and this is the city of Cologne which is also mentioned in the current verse. This seems to imply that the city is destined to be destroyed. Yet there is a strangeness in the hidden code as it struggles in presenting the concept that Cologne's fate is linked into faults of the ancient writings that can be remedied. The runic letter 'A' (ansur) is presented as a key source of danger. It reads somewhat like a critical review by Nostradamus of the Nordic Twilight of the Gods (Ragnarok) as set out in the Voluspa.
With the foregoing in mind and knowing that Lake Leman is the location of Geneva it takes little effort to recognise that the following verse probably contains useful code. This is particularly true when it is known that this verse contains anagrams of star-images, Nostredam and destruction.
Centuries 1 Quatrein 47
Nostradamus' text Meaning of original text Du lac Leman les sermons fascheront The speeches of Lake Leman will become angered, Les jours seront reduicts par les sepmaines the days will drag out into weeks, Puis moys, puis an, puis tous deffailliront then months, then years, then all will fail. Les magistrats damneront leurs loix vaines The authorities will condemn their useless powers.
In this verse, as with the previous, the hidden code serves two masters and this reduces its readability. Each of these verses tries to advance the central story while, at the same time, revealing the necessary clues for building Nostradamus' calendar. Here, in the visible text, we have a commentary on the inaction at Geneva and in the hidden code shown below we see the reasons for their condemnation. Their utopian ideals prevent them getting on with the job of monitoring the actions of rogue states. Consequently destruction arises out of a process that locks a positron and electron into a stable positronium (generally the components do not remain fused for long). The country involved has a king that holds the title to more than one throne and whose input into Geneva goes back to its origins.

I have analysed the fourth line of this verse in detail in my paper on astronomy. The term Valoix relates to the lineage of the kings that ruled France in Nostradamus time. There is an anagram of NOSTREDAM in this line and it is one of the pointers to the astronomic code used by Nostradamus. Although basically the same as in my other page I have introduced several of the other infrequently found words into the analysis above. In other papers of my mine you will find further references to this dual throned king of French lineage.
The next verse I present illustrates how the hidden code offers links between Nostradamus' obscure verse and provides explanations for his wording. It is linked by the idea of a repeated instruction to flee a specific place. Earlier it was Geneva. Here it is the region between Sicily and the Gulf of Trieste which encompasses all of Italy.
Centuries 8 Quatrein 84
Nostradamus' text | Meaning of original text |
Paterne orra de la Sicile crie | Paterno will hear the cry from Sicily, |
Tous les aprests du goulphre de Trieste | all the preparations in the Gulf of Trieste; |
Qui s'entendra jusque a la trinacrie | it will be heard as far as Sicily |
De tant de voiles fuy fuy l'horrible peste | flee oh, flee, so many sails, the dreaded pestilence |
There are immediate links to earlier ideas as the visible text mentions pestilence, which was one of the hidden keywords for Gaeta, in southern Italy. Now the third line hides important content. Firstly it has "endra jusque a l" which becomes "equals Jura end". Jura is a canton in Switzerland and the wording suggests the area is destroyed. There is a term in this line that implies that this event is in the near future. It is an unusual word meaning five hundred years. It appears as quincentenaries trial (la trinacrie Qui s'enten). This now reads as Quincentenaries trial equals Jura's end. The trial of the experimental electron ray leads to a trail of destruction (Note trail and trial are anagrams of each other)
The fourth line holds anagrams for date set and hourly to confirm that this verse is about measures of time but it also puts the reason for the disaster. We can gain an idea that it occurs at night in Italy for in the same line we have Holy attend life's hourly sleep." It appears the Vatican is on constant hourly alert as the catastrophe strikes. The disaster is brought about by oil wars as seen in this set of anagrams Oil vendetta horribly depletes fuels. There is a single group standing in the way of an oil deal because of its principles and this leads to power and fuel shortages. The positron experiment probably arises from this desperate need for fuel.
The second lines tells us that it there a trail of dust that causes the problem and it explains the preparations made in Northern Italy where sparse dugouts for filtering the air have been established.

So now we have an arc of destruction stretching from the mouth of the Rhine in the North, down the length of the Rhine through Switzerland and across the length of Italy and from there into Greece. These ideas will seem familiar to those already acquainted with Nostradamus work (e.g. See C.5 Verse 90, C.8 V.15, C. 8 V86)
But the time has come to cease following this trial since it adds little to the means of deciphering these works of Nostradamus. My aim was that it would serve to show the nature of the links between the verses where phrases are themselves ciphers that act as a clue of a verses relevance.
Remaining part still to be incorporated into text.
